Autumn is for Arts

Arts education is a crucial element in teaching the whole student.

The data is clear: students who have been educated in curriculums with strong arts programming do better in high school, college and in life.

The arts teach us a level of problem solving and critical thinking that are essential to success, Creativity is the lifeblood of a evolving democracy and arts education plays a key role in this.

As we move into autumn and the back-to-school phase of our year, it is worth remembering how much we owe the tireless teachers of our children who often sacrifice their own needs in order to bring needed supplies and resources to the classroom.

That is why today I renewed my membership to Americans for the Arts. Its a small donation but it is a statement I am proud to make. Americans for the Arts is a non-profit that advocates for the arts across many avenues of American life: in schools, communities, institutions and for individual artists.

On July 24, 2024, the US congress voted overwhelmingly to protect funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Cynicism and fear were beaten back, but the battle continues.

Americans for the Arts remains on the frontlines of the fight, ensuring our children get the well-rounded education they need and deserve.
